Is CiviCRM right for our non-profit Association?

Non Profit U.S. Army / 17th Infantry Regiment Association
Organized in 1812 and still serving the United States with great distinction.

Hello, I'm trying to figure out if CiviCRM would be a good fit with my Association's needs.  I'm a past President of the National 17th Infantry Regiment Association and I'm currently the Webmaster and Newsletter editor.  I've been the webmaster for over 10 years and the site and its capabilities have grown a lot.  Last year I decided to configure a test site with Drupal and everything was going great with my test users, content, etc, not to mention my learning the "Drupal" ropes.  Unfortunately, I think that I got a little carried away with the modules and themes and during an update, bam, I lost all my Admin tools, etc.  I'll chalk it up as a lesson learned and will keep the next site standard and basic with much functionality without all the bells and whistles.

Our Association has about 1,000 members and I would be the main administrator The most important function would be the member details, member search function, etc.  Other than having photo, document, and information archives, a forum is also needed.  Simple, but functional for our users and functional for us to pull membership and financial reports.

Million dollar question, is CivCRM w/Drupal a good fit for our needs?

Below is a quick flow chart of what I see us providing our members and visitors in the future.

Hi Mr Buffalo. I think you might make it easier for the community to respond if you split out what are obviously Drupal questions and focus on the CiviCRM unknowns. nothing looks particularly problematic at the current level of description for Drupal + CiviCRM but you know where the devil resides. SOme of what you want may involve using Views to get the data out of CiviCRM in a format that fits.

Agree with Peter, does not sound like anything Drupal and CiviCRM can not do, but the devil is in the detail. You might have to create some custom data and create some views.
Sounds like an interesting project, good luck! And keep us posted?

Many thanks for the responses and I'll get cracking on this in October.
