Hi

I have used civi before to record lists of individual members. On this install I want to record organisations and also the individuals within each organisations.

I can't get my head round how this woudl work nor what to search for in the forums. So sorry if this is obvious.

e.g. I have 10 doctors surgeries I want to put on the database as organisations; but also want to record the 3 doctors that work in each and at times will want to mail the individuals and at other times will want to mail the indivudlasd. Is it just a question of input all the inidvudlas and all the organisations? In which case is it possible to make any link between the organisation and the individual?

Has anybody done anything similar who could point me to some documentation?

Hi - Relationships are your friend. You could either use the 'Employee of' Relationship - which has some special characteristics, including the ability to add this from the Individuals summary 'edit' screen by using the autofill 'Current Employer' field.

When you create a Relationship it links the Doctor to the Medical Centre.

Try googling for "floss civicrm relationships" to find relevant section in the book.
