Searching for People who Used to Be Group Members

Hi,

I've searched the forum but I couldn't find anything related to this.  We're just starting to use CiviCRM and today I'll be introducing it to other staff members, so if anyone can answer this question in a hurry that might save my bacon in a small way!

I see that if I remove someone from a group that CiviCRM tracks this - old group membership is still shown in the contacts details.  I'd like to be able to get CiviCRM to give me all the people who used to be members of "Group X", but I can't see a way to search for that.  Can anyone tell me where to look please?

Even better would be the ability to ask CiviCRM for everyone who left "Group X" between a pair of dates.  Is this possible?

Ignore me, I've just found it!

For anyone who doesn't already know the answer this is the search criteria that got me the result I wanted:
Code: [Select]
Contacts IN Test Mailing Group ...AND...
Group Status - 'Added' or 'Removed'

This must look bad - talking to myself, lol...

But, whilst I can get a straight list of people who used to be in a mailing group I can't see anyway to combine it with other criteria.  Is this something I'd need to create a custom search for?  There doesn't seem to be anyway to add

you can create a smart group with all the members who are "removed" from a group

use this smart group in your other queries
