Retrieve location type?

I am building a specific API based on the standard API civicrm_location_get. The location_get retrieves the location_type_id, but I also want to get the label for the location_type. I can not find any other function for it other than using the standard CRM_Core_DAO::executeQuery on the table civicrm_location_type. Am I missing something? (probably yes.... :-))
