based on this and your previous posts, your best bet might be to hire someone from http://civicrm.org/professional/

This is being installed on a home server. I resolved the mysql problems!!! I do not need professional installation; just guidance.....after all this is supposed to be support forums!!! This is supposed to be a friendly place with expert guidance! If you cannot help me...I'll have to look at another CRM software program....I really like your program but I feel that I'm not getting the level of help that I should be in the forums!

I hear you etech, while I do love CiviCRM, I find that the most typical response is, "Hire a professional."

While I understand that many on this board are professionals trying to drive business to them in this tough economy, when someone asks a question the first response should not be, "based on how stupid you appear in your posts you should hire a professional". That's exactly how lobo comes across. The only two people who have ever been helpful to me as I learn CiviCRM is frshawn and eileen. Like me, alot of people just need some sort of direction as to where to head. I had tried for the longest to figure out a report and with the help of some others was able to get a report I needed working.

That being said, etech.

The file you are looking for should reside in your root web folder (wherever you installed CiviCRM) so it would look something like this

<location of drupal install>/sites/<folder for site domain>/civicrm.settings.php

As an example mine is located:

/home/tdsheppard77/saintfrancisocc.org/sites/saintfrancisocc.org

Hope that helps.

Would be good to get some stats on out of all forum posts, how many of them are: "Hire a professional."

my guess (without any stats) is less than 5-10%. I dont think this would come under typical under any circumstances. I decided to check the stats and there are 3 "hire a professional" in my responses in the last 145 response (thats approx 1.5%)

p.s> i'm not on the professional list of service providers

It's not so much referring someone to "hire a professional" it's how you say it. "based on this and your previous posts...." you're basically saying, "I think you're a stupid idiot and can't find your way out of an upside down bucket." It's rude and insulting.

My perception of you lobo is that you are arrogant, while that may not be true, it's how you come across when you say that. If you want to refer someone to a professional, have a little tact in how you say it. Just because you've worked with Civi and know it so well doesn't mean that someone else just starting out with it is going to understand it like you do. We all have to start somewhere and part of the forums is that we all help each other figure things out...not say to each other you're "so stupid you should just hire someone to do it for you". Obviously, etech and others, including myself want to learn to do it ourselves instead of hiring someone so we have to ask sometimes obviously silly questions in order to learn.

Thank you very much for your help!!! My son is on the Windows 7 partition of my computer playing Combat Arms....lol Tomorrow I will be out in the morning, but I will look for the file in the afternoon in the places that you told me too :)

Interestly I have 13 years experience in the I.T. field and 3 years experience in Linux. This is the first time that I have had problems with mysql; that is because all of the other programs that I have installed created the databases....etc, but for some reason, I royally screwed it up :P My fault completely!!!

I'm not that far away from getting it installed; I just wish that I had better help in these forums than I got; other than yours :)

Thanks again....much appreciated!

Cheers!

That would be greatly appreciated  ;D

I found the file but it had a .tl at the end of the file :( I tried to move the file to the correct location intact it didn't work, then I renamed the file just to the .php and then that didn't work :(

I have given up.....I installed ocportal and the install went great :) Great CRM software; more than we need but it works perfectly! I would have been using your software if I would have gotten better responses. But, hindsight is 20/20.

Cheers!

Sorry you had trouble etech. I know it's frustrating.

Hmmm, I'd not seen ocportal before. Checked it out and it has alot of really nice features but seems geared more toward CMS instead of CRM. Looks like it has some basic CRM tools but nothing like CiviCRM does. Though I think Civi could take some lessons from ocportal on some features for sure.
