Refresh Dashboard Data
September 23, 2010, 07:06:26 am
Hi All,
I don't understand why our operators have to click on the "Refresh Dashboard Data" button everytime they update something with civicrm in order to see the changing just made on the dashboard.
It's very confusing for our operators because they believe that something got wrong with the updating procedures.

Is it only for our installation that this feature raises issues?
Don't you think that this could be easily improved?

Thx

Rob.

Hi Rob,

If I understand the question correctly, I think the answer lies in the "Dashboard cache timeout" setting (at the top of this page at: Administer > Configure > Global Settings > Miscellaneous).  This setting dictates how many minutes CiviCRM will wait before automatically refreshing dashboard data.  It defaults to something like 1440 minutes, meaning 24 hours.  You should be able to set it to 0 for no caching at all.

Obviously this will have some impact on the dashboard load time, as the dashboard will have to reload new data on every viewing.

Thank you TM,
I didn't think about it!!
Very useful!
I don't care about the dashboard load time because, as I can see, at least in our installation, the dashboard page loads in more than 15 secs everytime.

We would like to speed up the page loading of the whole site but I think we have to change internet hosting provider or, simply, to set up a dedicated machine (we're investigating about it!!).

Thx a lot

Rob.
