I am currently on a shared host and am not to happy with my speed of response within the backend....What are settings I should look at? Should I switch to a VPS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

zesgar,

I think alot of the speed issue is with the server. In the shared hosting environment, the processor is having to deal with all the other sites on that particular server. A VPS would definitely help the speed.

Curious who you're host is? I use dreamhost for my hosting after switching from 1and1. I was very disappointed with 1and1 as they were extremely restrictive in what one could do. dreamhost is very accommodating and their support is excellent. I experienced some speed increases when I switched servers but am still considering moving up to one of their private server products or possibly moving my install to a local in-house server.

I was with 1and1 moved to hostmonster which was much faster and allowed for different php settings.  Now I am testing a VPS with hostican   I will post and let you know how the speed is with them.
