Set-up for a coalition where individuals are members of organizations
September 29, 2010, 10:31:30 pm
I'm definitely a newbe but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I am working for an org that is a coalition made up of "member-groups". The member-groups pay dues to join and they have members that are individuals. Is there any way to associate individuals with these member-groups. Not all individuals will be members of member-groups and individuals should also be able to make contributions. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Could you use groups? They would be the member groups and the individuals can be members? More information in the CiviCRM flossmanual:

HI,

Or you can create a new relationship "member of a member" between individuals & your members.

Depends of what you want to do with these once you have them mapped.

I think you should be looking at 'inherited memberships' ie

you have the following 'member' Organisations A, B, C, that join the top level Org (the coalition)

the 'membership type' that you set is is configured so that anyone who has a relationship of eg 'affiliate members' of Org A, B, or C then inherits the membership.
