Does the contribution page setup restrict the fields that can be edited on a contribution record after the fact?

Our organization accepts both deductible and non-deductible donations and we have set up two different contribution pages to accept the two types. We have both non-profit and charitable registration, and need the two seperate pages because we have two IATS accounts for the different types of contributions. Sometimes a donor will request that an already completed contribution be switched to the other type. Although this field is editable for any manually entered transaction, it would seem that if the contribution was submitted through a contribution page, any field defined by that pages setup is not editable on the contribution record. Can someone confirm that that is in fact the case? If so, is there any way to change this behaviour?

Thanks
