Error after moving hosts
October 03, 2010, 09:11:23 am
I've just moved our website to a new host (after some fairly spotty service from our old one!).

Everything works fine - except for civicrm! When I open the component in the backend I just get 'DB_DataObject Error: DB Error: connect failed'.

I've checked both settings files and the database connections are correct, as is the root address.

I've also tried re-installing the component, but get the same result - and when I try to use the 'update database utility' I still get 'DB_DataObject Error: DB Error: connect failed'.

I have also tried deleting all the database entries using phpMyAdmin, but it won't let me, citing a 'foreign key' blocking the deletion.

No idea how to begin fixing this - any ideas?

Cheers,

Ian.

Do check the steps and trouble-shooting here if you haven't:

If you want to "delete all database entries" in the CiviCRM DB - you should be able to run the civicrm_drop.mysql script (look for it in administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/sql directory).

If your error is DB Error: connect failed then deleting items in your DB won't help. You could perhaps try to contact your host to ask for assistance, but one thing to check is if Drupal uses mysql or mysqli. The CiviCRM installer doesn't support mysqli but you can manually adjust the connect strings to mysqli and they should work. It would be a bit odd, but perhaps your host provides mysqli and not mysql.

Beyond that, I would suggest you simply copy and paste your Drupal connect string into the CiviCRM settings file. If it connects, then you will of course get a different error, but at least you could ascertain that it's connecting. :)
