We're using CiviCRM 3.0.2, and there are many (100+) organizations with the same starting phrase, such as 'University of...'. When adding or editing a individual, and filling in 'University of Foo' as the employer, the individual's current employer is actually saved as 'University of Bar' or some other random organization that has a similar name.

I think this is because there are so many organizations that all start with the same combination of letters, but it is very important we put this right, because information is being saved incorrectly. Currently the only way to rectify this is to manually edit the relationships table in the database.

Is there anything that can be done here?

Bump. Does anybody have any idea on this one, please? We are convinced this is a bug, but there must be something we can do to sort this out!

Does your version have a look-ahead feature for this field? If so, are you typing in University of Foo directly or allowing it to look up the record in the database and then click on the dropdown that appears?

Hi there. Thanks for the response. The look-ahead does get activated, and does come up with the right thing, but even though 'University of Foo' is selected from the look-ahead and inserted into the text field, on saving, 'University of Bar' is the value that gets saved!

Hmmmm the problem is that this issue is not easy to replicate, if I want to do this on my environment I would have to spend a lot of time setting up data. Is there anyone in your organisation who would have enough skills to check the code and see where the problem occurs?

I appreciate it's not going to be simple to replicate, and I can't even supply you with the data, since it's a privacy issue. We don't have the resources here to debug CiviCRM at all, I'm afraid.

Is there any other option we could consider?

This makes it a bit of a "black box" for us then. The two options would appear to be:

1. Hire a developer who can sign an NDA and then access your site and attempt to debug it.

2. Consider upgrading and see if that might fix the problem.
