email required when adding new contribution

Though not required when we add a new individual, email address is a required field when adding an individual through the 'new contribution' function. Not all of our donors have email adresses and sometimes we just don't have that information when we are adding contributions. Is there somewhere in the administration to turn off email as a required field?

Not sure where you are seeing this.

Are you using the New Individual within the New Contribution.

Or does your Individual exist and you are adding it to that record

In neither case can i recall an email being required.

It is the New Individual with New Contribution that is giving us the issue, see attached screenshot.

hi susan - i suspect some customisation happened at your end to require the email on the 'new individual' pop up. see on the demo no such requirement.

It may be the same for the 'new individual' shortcut block which on demo you see in left sidebar - does yours (may have to be enabled to see it) also require email?

sorry i can't direct you to where the fix might be but the above may help one of the super techies on the forum to point you in the right direction if that is the issue

Check under Administer->Customize->Civicrm profile for the new individual. Maybe the email field has been set to required there.

Of course - i was thinking that was a special 'profile' since it is in the block and the pop up - but it isn't

thanks for your replies, it did not occur to me that this would be a profile setting. It's a default profile and the required email field is also default. So, it was an easy fix to make it not required.
