Blank screen - followed all other instructions

Hello,

I'm trying an install on Joomla 1.5.10...  I was using the normal version, install from directory, and it gave me an error about zip functionality not being enabled (which isn't correct), so I used the alt version, and I still get a blank screen when I try and install.  Have followed all instructions about changing PHP settings, everything on the installation guide.  I get no log errors - where should the log errors be showing up?  Thanks!
