Registrations with Household addresses
October 07, 2010, 08:05:34 am
I'm not sure what the correct behavior here should be, but I'm seeing some odd results when we submit online registrations for contacts that use a Household address (instead of their own).  If the registration page submits a different/changed address, that address shows up on the contact's record view page, but the record still says it's using the Household address (though the Household's address is not changed).  Let me see if I can explain this better using the demo site ...

Check out the contact record for Jennifer Roberts (http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=82&context=search).

You will see that it shows "555 NNN St" for the address, and it also says that she is using the "Jennifer Robert's Home" household address.  However, when you click on the household link, the address shown for that contact is totally different (http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=28), having the street as "487Q Lincoln Ln W".

This record changed because I registered Jennifer Roberts into an Event and, during that registration, used that new address ("555 NNN St").  It looks like Civi then updated her address, but it did not update the Household's address.  But it also did not remove the "Use Household Address" checkbox/linkage for that contact record.  So the result is this strange looking address mismatch.

I'm not sure what the correct solution is here - do we want to change the Household address?  That seems incorrect at certain times (maybe the household hasn't changed, just this contact).  But at the same time, don't we want to remove that link between the contact and household address?  Not the relationship, just the address link?

Also, I think I see a bug as well - when I registered and put a new address, I did not include a supplemental address field, but it seems Civi kept the "Mailstop 101" line in the resulting address.  That definitely seems like a bug to me.

I've added screenshots in case it helps.
