5 days to send a mailing?
October 08, 2010, 02:21:59 am
Last month, it took CiviSMTP 5 days to complete its sending of our newsletter to our 20,000 subscribers whereas for August it took 5 hours.  I thought it was an exception, but October's mailing was sent yesterday and is moving at the same snail-like pace.  Can someone explain what's going on and how we can fix this?  We haven't changed anything on our side. Thanks.

are you still seeing this problem? this can be due to slow connection to our servers from your data center.

The situation was better with our last mailing (2.5 days instead of 5 days) but still not good enough.  Our August newsletter was sent in 5 hours.

I've been able to achieve 5-6k per hour but apparently in the latest Civi version we can multi thread these jobs which could really speed things up. It is typically not a problem on CiviSMTP side.

Shane:  Using civiSMTP we sent our January 2011 newsletter out Saturday morning to our 18,500 subscribers and the mailing took 4 days to complete. We also had reports of people receiving it 2 and 3 times.  Is there a way for you to look into your logs to see if there's a problem?  I really want to continue using the civimail/civiSMTP solution for our future mailings, but may have to look into another solution (mailchimp?) if we can't get the send times down. Thanks.

@rdoiron - have you seen any improvement? We are considering CiviSMTP, but it seems a bit shaky. Thanks for any additional insight.

Yes, I have seen progress.  The past few mailings have been completed in hours as opposed to days.

Hi Guys,  :) over 150  organizations currently use civismtp with no problems.

something to remember here is that we are a server with which your server communicates.  this mean that there are lots of things that we do not have control over like your hosting network speed, netwrok reliability between our servers, etc.

We have found over the last 4 years that there are very few issues with the service itself and that most problems are due to misconfigurations in hosting setups or CCRM installations.

peace,

-Shane
