Selective Search Filtering != group ID not working as expected?
October 12, 2010, 07:34:44 am
Hi,

I have setup Civicrm for use with our non profit.

We setup groups to have our members attended workshops listed, so after a member has done a workshop we add them to that group.

I would like to be able to search for all people that have done a particular workshop already AND exclude members that have already attended other workshops. This way for example i can see who my newer members are, and not bother people that have already attended other workshops.

I found in the mailing list i can include and exclude groups so that helps with search filtering. but there is only a total number of people being emailed and does not show who they are.

The search interface is different to the mail filter, with search builder you cant exclude groups. I tried with fitering using != and group ID. but it does not exclude the group with ID and instead includes them.

How can i use the search to filter my new members ? or to be able to solve this problem. It must be quite commen search feature.
Thanks
Carlo

Hi,

I had a look and dont see that under any of the search options. i have 3.2.3 and also checked the www.civicrm.org web demo. can you paste web link to the page you mean.

There is that under mail feature, but it dont show the members list only the total number your going to send out to - so thats not helpful.

Closest that you mention is Search Builder.. but its missing the exclude.

I see: Search Builder via URL /civicrm/contact/search/builder&reset=1

Edit Search Criteria dark grey contains two light grey boxes.
---------------------
Include contacts where
3 combo boxes for selection.
another search field link
---------------------

then another light box below that says:

---------------------------
Include contacts where
3 combo boxes
another search field link
-------------------------
--
To me as a software developer i would have the second light grey box instead be exclude contacts, as the another search field link does exactly the same thing.

Thanks
Carlo

that is a Custom Search which you will find by clicking on the last link in the Search menu (it does not show in the 'expanded' section) ie here

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/search/custom?csid=4&reset=1
