Deleting Large Civicrm_Contact table
October 13, 2010, 09:38:28 pm
We have done a import of a large set of records (over 500K) to Civicrm.  We now want to delete all of these contacts and reimport.  We have made sure there is no transactional records associated with records.  We searched for ALL contacts and then selected the delete permanently on all of them. The process has been running for almost 5 days and we are still only down to 280K records remaining.  Because of time and the fact that there is nothing mission critical in the DB we have attempted to "empty" all the records through phpMyadmin.  When we start the empty command we receive the error "#1030 Got Error 1 from storage engine" We searched the forums and tried all the recommended solutions there. Our database still seems to be running fine.  Does anyone have any suggestions? :-[

I do not know why you get this problem, BUT if your CiviCRM takes 5 days to remove a data set of that size I would strongly suspect you are going to have to check the size and performance of your server? I suspect this will become a problem. On my server I handle larger data sets and create 35K of contacts through the API's in CiviCRM in about 30 minutes.
Checking the error you receive in Google, I get mainly advice to repair your tables, and also some suggestions about versions and size. What version of MySQL are you running on?
