Event-driven membership status changes?
October 14, 2010, 08:22:19 am
The timings-based membership status is a great feature. However, my client wants to be able to send a weekly welcome mailing to all new members and for them to not be new members after that.

Obviously in an ideal world, this would not be a problem: the "new" period lasts 7 days from the join date. But in the real world:
  • the weekly mailing might get missed one week (e.g. holidays or too busy) - someone would miss out on their mailing
  • if somone was entered Friday morning, the weekly mailout done Friday afternoon, then next week's mailing done a day early on the Thursday, this person would receive it twice

So what I'd like to be able to do is bump the status from New to Current at the point of doing the mailing, thereby ensuring everyone gets a welcome mailing, and only once.

(The update membership status by profile didn't seem to work - and it's unclear how that can work, without setting admin override, which isn't what I want after the "new" status has moved to "current")

If there was a way to batch-set the start date, I think this would do the trick?

Thanks,

Rich.
