search results not showing accurately

I've run a pretty simple 'advanced search' for contacts with a certain contribution type within a certain date range. The number that it reports seems accurate but those records don't all appear in the list as if it's being truncated. I first noticed this yesterday when a result of 194 records stopped at records with the last name starting with D, it probably showed me only about 30 records in total. This morning I started the search again and again was told there were 194 records. To avoid the same situation as yesterday and because I know I stopped at E, I narrowed the results by letter. With a smaller amount of results I was able to notice that it would tell me how may records it found but not list them all. In one case, the result was 23 records, which should have been able to display on one page, but only 13 records showed up.

The purpose of the search is to add tags and other info to each record, but I cannot automate the process because each case is slightly different.

Please pardon the rather convulted explanation and thank you in advacne for any replies!

Advanced search gives list of contacts. So if contact has more than 1 contribution record you will get incorrect count. But I guess you can tag them.
