Hi there,

searching and trying like crazy I just came across that some profile editing forms placed on our site by using form snippets don't edit/add user data on users civicrm accounts. Checking the corresponing custom-profiles I've noticed that there are only 2 of the 4 (Profile & search) profile creation options "Used for" available. User Profile & Add/Edit Account are missing. I am currently using the latest version 3.2.3.
Am I missing anything here like any basic settings in the admin area?
Another thing is that these form snippets do not even show the current field contents. The only things you can see are the labels, field descriptions and the the input areas as long as the fields are not set to show data only.

Linking the custom profiles to the built in standard edit or listing pages via Joomla menu, I get the field contents listed but there is still no way to edit or add field content.

Is there anyone who knows how to get this problem solved since our users should be able to register this way to events and stuff.

 "User Profile & Add/Edit Account" options are disabled for mixed profiles.

yes, I know. the strange thing is, that the missing two options are not even available on creation of the new profile. I hope not to have missunderstood the manual, but as to my logic, a mixed profil will be determined by adding different types of fields thereafter, so that on profil creation all options should be available. Am I totally wrong here?

Still hoping not to have to  spend all weekend sitting over this issue.

Oh you are on joomla right? This options are not available for joomla. You cannot add profile during registration for joomla.

to get precise here: Our useres are registering themselves via Joomla as usual. During the further use of the site they might get interested in events and before they can register for an event they have to add further individual information to their existing civicrm profil which has meanwhile been created by syncronizing the Joomla userbase. So the only thing we would need is to add/edit data to existing user accounts via frontend which is not possible as long as there is no way to create custom profiles without at least the option "Used for Add/Edit".
Are you serious that this option is not available in Joomla, meaning that there is no way to edit user profiles from the frontend?

To be honest, I am  a little confused now,

ok, meanwhile I figured out, that there were two issues. First rel 3.1.3 who did not allow list-fields and secondly I was assuming that once a user is logged in on Joomla, having his joomla profile data synchronized with civicrm, there is no further need to have the user enter basic userdata for a second time in order to add further civicrm user infos. But this seems not to be the case since sending form data to civicrm without filling out the basic user fields always ends up in creating new accounts on civicrm without this data (althout settings on custom profles are set to not create new accounts).

So my final question would now be: how to avoid that a user has to enter his basic data twice by having cicrm recognize the users data from being logged into joomla and adding his data entries to the corresponding account automatically?

Shouldn't this be possible to avoid duplication of data records.

Edit: I guess I am bothering already, but trying to get this sorted out I again created standard civicrm add/edit profile menu pages where always only profile listings are being shown, without the additional field descriptions and there is no way to enter or modify the data shown. Checking profiles with the folling link: administrator/index2.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/profile/edit&reset=1&gid=N as described in the manua, everything workes fine. Can't find any other information related on documentation.
I hate giving up on problems, but this seems to be beyond my scope. Could anyone please help me further.

thanks for the info, the second link is not working but I guess I have read this page already. But all in all thats not the issue: Having run the same installation on localhost everything works well. On the production-server editing a user profil in backend works fine but the access to the same profile in frontend ends up in a profil listing no matter whether you define the civicrm menu link as add/edit, create new account or as list page.

So why is an edit access to user profiles limited to backend only. Are there any general settings to be changed?

Second link is working for me. If user is logged in on frontend he should be able to edit his information.
