How can I test a packaged/zipped custom search?

Is there a sandbox where I can test a packaged custom search? Or do we need to download and install the CiviCRM 3.3 code base that is in development?

you will need to download a 3.3 version to test this. the 3.3 version of extensions does not allow "uploading" of extensions to a server
