Duplicating events, not counting all participants
October 18, 2010, 06:06:19 pm
Right now I'm having two issues with CiviEvent:
1. Not counting all participants
I have an event set up to limit the number of registrations to 50. The event is using the "regular fees" section, and there is a price for adults, and a price for children. No price sets or anything like that. Ultimately, we had 160 spots for this event, but since we are also selling tickets in person and over the phone, and haven't yet merged the lists, my plan was to ratchet up the max of 50 when it became necessary. When I checked it last week, we had 107 paid/complete registrations through the website when it cut things off with the "Sold out" message.
I think this was 50 transactions.
Do I have something configured wrong? For my purposes, I don't care how many transactions we have -- I have a finite number of spaces, and that's what I need it to track.

2. Duplicating events
This I have less information on. For some reason, CiviEvent seems to randomly replicate events. Every once in awhile, I go in, and see:
Initial Event (ID 1)
Copy of Initial Event (ID 4)
Copy of Copy of Initial Event (ID 5)
Copy of Copy of Copy of Initial Event (ID 10)
and so forth.
I haven't noticed anything amiss in the logs, or any seeming pattern to when this happens. It's not a major issue for me at this time (because while they exist, they're not automatically showing up anywhere), but they do seem to increase the time it takes CiviCRM to function (once I delete the random copies, things move more quickly). At first I thought my not-amazingly-tech-savvy other person who has access to this information might be accidentally hitting something that's causing it, but this is now happening on two different sites (so it's either me, or the computer!).

All of this is CiviCRM 3.2.2

for item 2:

most like anon user has permission on "access civievent" and a bot is basically causing copies of the event to be made

Don't I need anonymous users to have permission to "access civievent" to be able to register for events and whatnot?

Nope, you can assign following permissions to anonymous users to be able to register for events :

1. make online contributions (if paid events)
2. profile listings (if profile used)
3. profile listings and forms
4. register for events
