Front end access
November 21, 2007, 01:22:31 pm
Hi all - firstly I'm new to the forum but it seems to be a fantastic resource. Thanks!

I've been working the past few days to get CiviCRM installed and configured on Joomla, creating custom groups, etc.
From the front end I've managed to linked to Profiles and even managed to get a link to the CRM home page to work.

PHP built on : Linux
Joomla 1.0.12 Stable
PHP 5.1.6
Database version 5.0.27
Web server Apache / 2.2.0 (Fedora)
Civicrm 1.9.11960
MySQL 5.0.27

However there seem to be features, ilke adding activities to organisations, which just cannot be accessed from the front end.
You get the classic message 'You do not have permission to execute this url.'

I've read the links and understand that there are functional limitations for the Joomla version:
    http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,1234.0.html
    http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Configuring+Front-end+Profile+Listings+and+Forms+in+Joomla%21+Sites

However, it seems strange to me that you can log onto the administrator side of the site and create activities but not from the
standard site front end. Surely you want to be able to give access to users to create activities for tracking calls, etc without being an administrator.

Is this functionality only available in Drupal version or am I missing a subtle quirk of of the CiviCRM administrator tools?

I'm loathed to move to Drupal having mastered Joomla over the past couple of months, but...

Please could someone put me out of my misery??!

Many thanks

Gadders

Yes, the permissioning model in joomla is a bit limited and only a limited amount of functionality is available via the frontend.

CiviCRM works a bit better with drupal and permissioning

Thanks once again for taking the time to reply Lobo.

When will there be some idea whether the Joomla 1.5 ACL system is considered good enough to enable Civi integration?  This is mentioned several places in the documenation.

Thanks,
Ken
