Seperate Contacts for users

How do I keep user contacts separate, but still allow admin to view all?

Thanks in advance!

I would like each user to have their own individual contacts.  I do not want sales person A viewing sales person B's leads and contacts.  How would I go about setting this up?

Thx!

You will need to set up ACL groups for each of your Users - check ACL groups in the manual. hope that helps

I was looking at them earlier, so do I need to setup and assign a group to each sales person?

Correct - add each of the sales people to their own ACL group - and set up a target group for each of them which contains the contacts they should access

forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but where do I create a group?  I have read the docs, I see everything (ACL etc) but not where to create the groups.

k so i have 2 groups and 2 sales people on there.  ACL is set for each group, but when either searches they can find each others contacts.  What do you think I'm missing?

Nothing that won't be covered here - http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC32/Access+Control

It can be quite tricky following the route but you would have to be much clearer on your set-up to be able to point to what step you may have missed.

Thanks so much already for your help Peter D!

I just wiped out my users and am starting from scratch again.

I have one admin user and a fresh drupal and fresh CiviCRM installed.

I would like there to be 2 types of users, the 'admin' (root user) and 'sales person'.

I would like each sales person to have access to add, edit, and view ONLY their contacts NOT any other users.

I would like the admin to be able to view all contacts for him/her self and all 'sales person' users.

Thanks!

Z

NOt sure if there was really a question in the above.

You can let each of your 'salespeople' have their own 'profile' for entering data, and in Adv Settings, set that contacts entered via Saleperson A's profile, they get added to Salesperson A's Group.

Then Salesperson A goes in to the ACL Group that has access to everyone in Group A.

Under Admin > Customise > Profiles.

These questions suggest some more reading of the Manual may help. Not trying to be unhelpful but is a pretty basic question I think you should be able to track down - especially if you are going to wrap your head around using CiviCRM with ACLs

I am neck deep in the manual, just having a hard time wrapping my head around how all of this stuff fits together (even TFM :) ).  I'd be willing to paypal ya a few bucks if you would spend 15 min w/me on how to set this up.  I'm doing this as a favor to a friend that suddenly needs this done by tomorrow am.  I have not used drupal or civi before.
