Deceased people keep getting returned doing membership searches

When I build a search using the advanced contact search and only search for members of two specific membership types (no other parameters), my results are returned including people that are deceased.  By deceased, I mean that when we imported them, their "is_deceased" field is = 1 and I have input a deceased date for all of them.

I don't want these people showing up when I do reports.  What can i do to fix the system to not return dead people unless I tell it to?

You might want to stop the memberships of the deads, so they won't show up.

Can anyone else help me with this?  I don' want dead people showing up in any reports, not just membership ones and right now, they are.

is their Membership Status being set to Deceased also?
