After Upgrade CiviCRM Home is blank
May 07, 2007, 08:39:01 pm
i'm upgrading from civicrm 1.6 to 1.7. i got to the place in the instruction that says to navigate to the CiviCRM Admin page so i can turn on debug. but when i try to go to the admin page all i get is the a blank "CiviCRM Home." i don't get the link to get into the settings page.

if anybody has suggestion about how to move on from this point i would greatly appreciate it.

thank you

Which version of PHP and MySQL are you using? Do you get the usual Drupal ‘wrapping’?

It should end with admin/setting?reset=1

Is there anything in the webserver error logs?

my set up is with php 4, mysql 4.1, drupal 5.1.

when i go to the url of any civicrm page the rest of the content coming from drupal show as i would expect it. it's just that the civicrm part only show the tittle and nothing else. for instance if i go to civicrm/admin/setting?reset=1 i see the standard template and all the standard links of my site but only the title "Global Settings" above a blank space above where all the links to civicrm setting should be.

i don't see anything useful in my log file.

This is very strange. Can you check the permissions of your files and files/civicrm directories to make sure they’re writable by the webserver? Also, try deleting the files/civicrm/templates_c directory (which holds the cached Smarty templates of CiviCRM files).

Szotkowski, thanks four your troubleshooting advice.

i had deleted the cache in templates_c before i turned to the forum for help. after your suggestion i also set the privileges on the files and files/civicrm directories  to 777 (just to be sure). i'm still having the same problem.

another related symptom is that the civicrm block of menus is also not showing up where it should.

I've overcome this problem. i'm not exactly sure how. i just reset my database and started back at the beginning of the update instructions.

two things i did differently are to use Piotr's post of an updated sql update script from here http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,91.msg627.html#msg627. and second difference was to set $civicrm_root and CIVICRM_TEMPLATE_COMPILEDIR under civicrm.settings.php to be absolute values starting from the root of my host's server. (in my previous install the relative values worked correctly, so i hadn't bothered change the setting.)
