Locked out of CiviCRM site -- Password apparently somehow changed or missing
November 01, 2010, 09:37:40 am
I had been getting error email message saying the cron job I had set up had invalid password/ID. Upon looking into this, I realize I cannot even log-in with the Admin ID that I had all along. Apparently this somehow got deleted.... (or the password somehow changed).

I now get:
Sorry, unrecognized username or password. Have you forgotten your password?

If I try to click on "Forgotten your password" or "Request new Password" -- it claims it does not recognize the email I put in.

The forms I have up on the website that uses CiviCRM seems OK.

Is there ANY way I can fix this??? I still can access the FTP site -- is there any file I can fix in the drupal directory so I can log back in and do admin stuff? I'm unable to re-set from CiviCRM console!

I should also mention that this Admin ID is my drupal ID..... I do not have any other civiCRM user ID (big mistake on my part)

I tried to issue http://www.<site>.org/drupal/q=civicrm/admin&reset=1  but that returned "Page not found"....

I really need to get back in CiviCRM to be able to admin it.......

Is there anyway to re-install drupal but keeping CiviCRM unchanged -- if I were to copy/backup the civicrm directory and then wipe out drupal and then copy that folder back on a clean drupal, would I be able to connect and have everything the exactly same?

Hi,

The immediate concern is how to get you back into your system.  The more mysterious concern is how you got locked out, or more specifically how to be sure it won't happen again. Nonetheless you need back in one way or another.

I'd be very surprised if it really took a reinstall of Drupal to get you back in.  That's overkill, so don't go there.

If the problem is simply that your password or username has changed, and you really can't get to it through Drupal's "request new password" feature, you can likely reset your drupal username or password directly in the MySQL database.  Have you tried that yet?

TM-

Thanks for the advice!

I looked at this:
http://community.contractwebdevelopment.com/how-reset-drupal-admin-password

I'm still unable to get in but I seem to be 1 step closer.... Apparently somehow the super ID got re-assigned to a different email address.... I switched it to my email address in the mySQL database, now when I attempt to Request a password reset from CiviCRM login screen, I do get the email... when I click on the link to re-set, I am brought back to my CiviCRM page with "Access Deined" message.

Any other ideas???

In the mySQL database, I am able to find my "Admin" ID, with my email address.... and it is assigned to UID = 1, but for some reasons I get access denied after attempting to reset the password.

Uhmmm... if I were to log into the CiviCRM database (not Drupal database), is there some "permission" field I could modify???

Hi ToddFur,

Hard to say from this distance.  Some questions I would ask myself:
 - Am I really logged in as Drupal User 1 (eg. can I access update.php after logging in)?
 - Is the "permission denied" error coming from Civi or from Drupal (can I access any part of civi at all, or any part of drupal at all)?

If you're really logged in as Drupal User 1, I'm aware of no permission in Drupal or CiviCRM that will stop you from accessing any CiviCRM feature -- you should have it all.

BTW, I don't recall specifics, but I've seen things go strange when the record with uid=0 is missing from the Drupal `users` table. Not sure if that applies here.  Might want to check that.

I'm not sure if the answers to these questions would help /me/ come up with any solutions, but they might give you some clues as to next steps.

Let us know what kind of progress you're making.

I thought I'd let everyone know I have gained access back to civiCRM!!

I was searching this issue under drupal.org and apparently it is a common issue with FireFox with Drupal 6.17/6.19 --- others have gotten the access denied message after changing the Admin password.... but that is only specific to Firefox (cookie issues???), I am able to log in with I.E.

Very odd.
