using Batch Update Via Profile in 2.2.9
November 01, 2010, 11:00:26 am
I've got a bunch of contacts that are sitting in civi, with some data from another file (actually older Drupal site) that we're trying to add to each individual civi contact record via the Batch Update via Profile function. We have built a profile that displays the custom data that we want to update for each record, however when we save it, it simply takes you back to the find contacts page with the last search results. There is no indication the records have been updated and when you click into the records, they havent been saved. Im guessing it;s something simple, like the profile not being active under administer civicrm >profile, however, I checked that and all looks correct for the profile we are using for the Batch update - any suggestions / thoughts?

so batch update works from the 'actions' button on the search results. ie you find a set of results, select the ones you want to use, click on 'actions' and click the 'batch update via profile' then select the profile (that you set as a 'profile-type' profile in the Profile settings) and that way you can change that value for a whole bunch of contacts in one go.

Is that what you were trying?

Can you throw some screenshots up in case it helps spot what is going odd?

Hey Peter, thanks for the help. Unfortunately it doesnt merge using the reconfigured rules with email as the match, just creates dupes on import. I tried to switch it back so it at least works like it used to but cant seem to do it...any help would be appreciated.

Well, Batch Update via Profile is now working as we saw, even when I expanded the search results to display 50 members at a time. My sole challenge now is to attempt to migrate the home and work address into these records, which I have tried both at once and as separate migrations, with no luck. Going to keep trying. If you think it;s better to post the migration issue under a separate thread, please let me know.

Is there a place within civi to globally change the primary email for all civi contacts to home. the issue is now that you can only seem to populate the work email by using the update function in the Import Wizard which unfortunately preserves but also boots the home email from its place as primary (it was listed as primary prior to the import) and replaces it with the work email being migrated in. So in that case, you now have both emails, but same problem as the work email comes up as primary which is not what we wish to use for electronic communications. If there was some way to globally switch it home as always primary, this would help quite a bit I believe.

i think there was an issue that Primary was set to which ever column of emails comes first in the import - can you sort out your need by reordering the columns?

hmmm. you had mentioned that before , that the orders of the columns may matter. I'll definitely try it. H

Hey Peter, back at this now...I did some more tests and it appears as if your suggestion to  shift the column containing the home email to make it come first in the imported spreadsheet WILL actually render the home address and email as primary, go figure.  Additionally, if you designate the home email as "main" it will also show up associated with contacts when you search them in the advanced search (for emailing purposes), but it leaves the work address as primary. Since that seems to solve it, Im going to  shoot for having the entire migration done some time tomorrow, will let you know how it ends up looking. Thanks for this suggestion!
