Using CIVICRM and school online directory
November 02, 2010, 05:34:44 am
I want to create a school database for our Parent Teacher organization.  We need a place (other than a spreadsheet) to keep track of families, their students, the teachers that the student has been assigned, grade level, amount of PTO membership they paid, donations made and dates, any committees that parents may be interested in joining, times available for volunteering and a way to email all the parents that are interested in specific committees.  We also want to run reports and need a comment section.  I deally at some point we may want to offer theparents a way to log in and see and update only their information.  Also it would be nice if there was a sign up feature for specific events then we could get a report of those that say for instance they want to volunteer for the book fair.

Is CiviCRM a good use for this or is it too much.  Keep in mind membership directors change every year or everyother year so we need a system that is easy to maintain.

Suggestions/Comments are welcome.

yes you can :)

I manage the student and families at my school via CiviCRM. Most of your stuff below is fairly standard CiviCRM. You might need to extend CiviCRM via hooks to meet some of your specific needs.

I've developed CiviSchool which add more features to CiviCRM to manage kid activities etc. A detailed writeup / blog post is here:

You might want to read the book to get an understanding of CiviCRM:
