Volunteer Management & Role Specific Training for a sporting event?
November 03, 2010, 10:59:54 am
Hi All...

I'm involved in the volunteer management and Role Specific Training for a mid sized sporting event.

I would like to be able to get online sign up's to volunteer at the event
Be able to see what roles people would like to do
and from that, see what training they need to do
Schedule Training Events for the volunteers & get them to choose the appropriate ones (geographically and as and when they are have the free time)
Get custom info like t-shirt size and a photo (for a t-shirt & accreditation)

A small information site would also be handy, but just a couple of pages, as the main event content would be on a different site, this would be volunteers.mainsite.com
or something like that...

I currently have a dedicated server, but I'm moving to a VPS soon, so MySQL and PHP will be the latest spec, and I'm sure I can install any required packages.

What do you recomend as the best way to go???

All of the above sounds possible using Custom Fields exposed through Profiles, either in a standard Profile page, or even in an event if you want to easily differentiate between people Volunteering for Event A versus for Event B

Not very clear what you are asking in your last sentence.

From what you describe it doesn't suggest that there would be any difference for you. best you check the Manual about the differences before I say something inappropriate - though Drupal has more options re Permissions I believe - and in other areas, but no point having them if you don't use them. Joomla is meant to be an easier learning curve, and Drupal is generally seen as being able to take things further.
