Proximity Search as a Locator?
November 04, 2010, 12:03:05 pm
Hello,

I have searched on this and haven't found my case represented.  Hopefully i haven't missed something obviouse.

I am trying to make the Proximity Search available on the front-end so that users can do searches for organizations that have been loaded into the system.  Either the system doesn't support this (really hope this isn't the case) or i am missing something.

Some guidance would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Curtis

Take a look here:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/CiviCRM/CapturingExposing

You can use a profile for proximity search.

Thank you.  The answer was in Customize > CiviCRM Profile.  I needed to go into the settings of the profile > Advanced Settings > Proximity Search Optional.  I also enabled Mapping, which you need an API Key for - which i got from Google.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Thanks,

Curtis

Sorry, one more question.  Is there a way to change the distance the map (in this case google) returns the result?  Right now it brings up the location at the closest distance and it's hard to tell that the map is working correctly until you zoom out.

Thanks,

Curtis

The last question i have is still a concern for us.  An answer would be helpful.

Also, is there a way to configure the proximity search to accept just a State and Country selection?  Currently it only allows you to search by distance if you enter a Zip Code.  Our search is used to find chapters in a state.  In many cases, the user doesn't know the local Zip Codes.

Thanks,

Curts

You will need to modify the code to fix this. You might also want to check and see if google/yahoo geocode just a state/country combination
