CiviEvent -> Drupal OG sync; robust functionality
November 04, 2010, 02:32:50 pm
Hello there.

I realize that many people have posted about OG and Civi before, and I've read many threads.  I'm starting my own thread because a client's ambition is specific and out-reaches most proposals that I have read so far.  I realize this functionality doesn't yet exist in CiviCRM.  I'd like to solicit, ideas, proposals, help, or co-sponsorship with this thread.

I understand that OG -> Civi sync exists (in one direction).

The client is primarily interested in CiviEvent -> OG -- the other direction.

Functionality requested as follows:

1) Administrator creates CiviEvent
2) Event creation (of only certain types of events) automatically creates one corresponding OG for the event
3) Administrator is assigned as leader of the OG, must manually reassign a different leader, if necessary
4) Subsequent participant registration does the following:
  a) checks to see if the registrant has a Drupal account
    i) Yes: add Drupal account to the corresponding CiviEvent OG as a member
ii) No: create Drupal account, send username/password via email, add the new account to the corresponding CiviEvent OG as a member
  b) If a participant cancels their registration, or their participant status otherwise changes, the Drupal user is removed from OG automatically

Any ideas on how best to proceed?  I'm going to look at the API, if I don't go insane in the process I'll be back to check the responses and ideas in a couple of days.

thanks....

yes I read that one, thanks...

that will give me a starting point, but it's not tied to CiviEvent registration at all.  I want OG membership to be automatic, no visiting a website page to click a link necessary on the part of the event participant, just an email staying "this is your username/password and this is the group for your event here: http://og-page
