Linking participant record to ticket purchase?
November 04, 2010, 05:03:12 pm
Hi

Hope someone can help me figure this out, it's likely I'm doing something stupid.

I use civicrm to power an event registration page and am having problems finding certain information. I allow guests to register more than one person in one go, to save multiple paypal transactions and make life easier. If I go to Bob's page (who bought both tickets) I see a contribution of double the ticket price but only one event registration. I can find the second registration through his activities log. However, if I go to Linda's page, I see no contributions, no activities and one event registration. The problem is most of the time I have no idea who paid for Linda's ticket, I see no way on my screen that links a participant/event registration to a payment transaction because it seems to file some (not all, and I'm not sure what the criteria is to differentiate the behaviours) registrations both under the same contact and some under separate contacts.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on but my basic question is how I link an event registration back to the source payment, this is becoming important because on some of these 'orphan' registrations, I have no contact information so can't communicate with the guest.

Hope someone can enlighten me :)

Many thanks

Ewan

It does show you all the additional participants that have been registered by Bob when you click on the View link for Bob's participant record in 3.3.

A participant record and a corresponding contribution is stored in Bob's name and a mapping is stored between the two ( in the d/b).

Since Bob is the one who paid for the tickets, all the other (additional) participants have their own participant records with registered_by_id pointing to the Bob's participant record, hence these additional event registrations are not 'orphaned'. Not having a corresponding contribution record in this case means that someone else registered them for the event.
