Proximity Search AND Group -- doesn't work with smart groups?

This seems to be the case, both on my site and on the demo. Is this correct?

It's not a tremendous inconvenience, because I'm saving my proximity search results as a smart group and then using Search Builder to find members of both that group and the other smart group I want. (Advanced Search seems to find multiple groups using OR rather than AND, so I had to go through Search Builder.)

It spits out "no matches found," even when there are matches, for the record.

I have this same problem.  Proximity searching within a smart group doesn't work from within CiviCRM.  For some reason, it doesn't work from a profile available on my public site. 

Why would this be the case?

You guys know that in order for the proximity search to work, your contact addresses need to be geocoded right?
