The new feature in Advanced search with being able to choose the result type ( contact, contribution, etc ) is fantastic.   Is the result type "memberships" going to be included?  Also, would it be possible to ask which profile should be used to control which columns are displayed in the search result screens? 

I had some questions/suggestions: After completing the search, the list of batch actions vary depending on what was selected. But many actions that are part of the list for contacts, should also be included for participants. The actions for "Send PDF Letter", "create mailing labels", "show on map", etc. are useful for participants.

Yes that would be really good to centralize and have most tasks available across all searches. Would be great if the community can help make this happen either by contributing  a patch and/or sponsoring the development

at this point, memberships are not included, though i suspect that is a fairly small easy patch
