[solved] successfully registered the joomla user but...
November 14, 2010, 04:08:35 am
In a new joomla and civicrm set up I have created a Civi profile that includes creating a Joomla user account.

The civi contact and the j user are created, an email is sent from joomla to the new user to authenticate the account - link works ok and the user is enabled in joomla.

But - when this new user tries to log in - the white screen of nothing

I have put error reporting to Max and debug on and looked at the raw logs - still white screen of nothing! (Someone else may be able to make sense of the logs!)

I had set the login process to go straight to dashboard, so now I have tried setting it to just go to the home page - no difference.

BUT if I log in as my joomla super admin - I get in ok, can see my dashboard and edit my profile - all looking good.

In the plugin Authentication - CiviCRM, the parameter "Is Current" is set to 1
is current = the highest value of civicrm_membership_status.id which relates to a valid current membership. You will need to use phpMyAdmin to look at the civicrm_membership_status table to find the highest ID which relates to a valid current membership status.

This relates to MEMBERSHIPS and I read that the super admin bypasses this - so I am getting warm?

In this set up, the client needs to collect contact information and manage the contact relationships so I have not tried to implement memberships - does Authentication - CiviCRM imply that it only lets Members log in?  Is there anyting that is just for contacts to log in to joomla so they can check their dashboard and edit their profile?

Nothing like finding your own answer:

"CiviAuthenticate replaces the core Joomla authentication plugin and let's you limit access to only members in good standing. ... Someone may have a user account, but if their membership expires, they won't be able to login."

So to do what I want in this site I only need one civi plugin - User - Civicontact, and just use joomla authenticate.
