Just wondering where this is at as I have seen a lot of blogs and posts about this being in a future version.

Is it doable?

No movement on that so far. However, we are planning to post this as a "make it happen" project for joomla 1.6 and Civi v4.0

We'll be posting the 3.4 / 4.0's make it happen in early december
