Manual Credit Card Processing
November 29, 2007, 03:51:08 am
I have a client who processes credit cards by hand in his office, by typing in the number to a little machine of some sort. He wants to accept donations online in CiviCRM and use the same method. I do not see any such payment processor. Some e-stores accomplish this by storing half the card # in the DB and emailing the other half. Then to make the actual transaction, the store owner must put the two halves together.

What do people think of this? If it's not unreasonable, perhaps I will try to create such a processor.

Thanks.

I just installed civicrm and was surprised this was not an option already. I am very interested in having a manual cc process. We currently use Zen Cart which works fantastic but I was hoping to switch over to civicrm because of all the community building, event registration, and volunteer options. Has there been any work on this?

There is a feature in the admin / backend interface to manually process a credit card if you have all the details. You will need to use a payment processor like authorize.net / paypal pro that supports this feature

check:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contribute/offline?reset=1&cid=105

for an example

I am interested in opening a discussion with CiviCRM users regarding credit card recurring/membership billing features some people have been inquiring about.

Caledon Card Services is a merchant account provider and gateway payment processor based in
Georgetown, ON, Canada. We have been in business for over 25 years providing merchants with the ability to safely and securely authorize and settle credit card transactions through retail, mail order/telephone order and e-commerce businesses. We have recently upgraded our recurring billing system to reflect our standing as one of the most pro-active PCI (payment card industry) compliant processors in North America.

Traditionally, advocacy and non-profit groups have not had the resources to spend thousands of dollars in upgraded security hardware/software in order to comply with ever increasing credit card company security compliance standards. With Caledon's recurring payment system, these groups are able to process all card types on a one-time or recurring cycle without the liability of storing the sensitive credit card data. All data is stored in our PCI compliant environment, essentially removing the majority of the liability from the merchant.

Please feel free to post or email any questions you may have. We currently process for a number of non-profits and associations and would be more than happy to discuss your organizations unique requirements.

Best Regards,

Marcus

Have you developed an interface with Civicrm or do you plan to sponsor one ?

If yes, would have a bunch of questions about:

- fee structure (roughly)
- if you only take CA customers or can also work with EU/AU/US

as you want a discussion and therefore not a simple sales pitch, I'd suggest to reply in this thread, so others can benefit.

Thx.

What do you mean by "credit card recurring/membership billing features some people have been inquiring about"?

There are several PCI compliant payment processor plug-ins for services like IATS and Moneris and PayPal. What's distinct about your offering?

Do you have suggestions regarding the workflow of how to keep the accounting in CiviCRM for recurring transactions in sync with what is actually processed by payment processors, eg when a card expires or is refused for some other reason?

We are trying to integrate with CiviCRM (at no cost to them), but unable to get any direction on how to accomplish this.  Caledon is PCI Certified and provides payment processing solutions for over 30K merchants in Canada; including Recurring Payments, ecommerce, and customized integrated solutions.  We offer added value processing services such as Account Mapping (we store the credit card # and expiry date, which alleviates PCI compliance and risk from the merchant/card acceptor).  We also offer reduced pricing for Associations and Non-Profit organizations; typically half the cost of PayPal et al.  Regarding transaction reconciliation, we provide a daily email report (in CSV or Text) that can be imported into most accounting systems as well as the ability to provide customized reporting.  Regarding recurring transactions, we can provide a custom web interface to manage payments, expired cards, client accounts, etc.; we send email notifications to the card holder and merchant regarding upcoming expiry dates.  If we are able to integrate with CiviCRM, we can produce a custom report that will feed back into CiviCRM.  Currently, we only support Canadian domiciled businesses for Visa/MC Merchant Accounts, but able to provide Gateway processing for all CAD/USA businesses.  Our fees vary depending on sales/transactions volumes and our customers' processing needs, but typically lower than our competitors.  As well, we do not charge for integration or set-up and include our Recurring Payment solution and Virtual Terminal with all Merchant Accounts.  Please note that non-profit organizations will receive much lower pricing than our standard rates.  If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Just to clarify: All user and developer support is done on the forums and not via email (hence i redirected you to the forums when u sent us email)

You might want to download and install CiviCRM and see how it integrates with some existing payment processors. You might then want to take a look at: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,1654.0.html to get started on writing a payment processor for Caledon. Note that you will require PHP5/MySQL skills to do so. While writing this, if you can provide better instructions on how to write a custom payment processor for CiviCRM on the wiki for other folks wanting to do so, that would be much appreciated.

Did Caledon ever come out with CiviCRM integration?

As far as I know, they never moved ahead with this (there's no plugin in the repository and I did not hear of any updates after the last post in this thread).

Hi All,

Actually, we did move ahead with creating a payment plug-in to CiviCRM and have been anxiously awaiting a guinea pig....

If anyone is interested, I urge you to contact me to discuss.
