Civimail User Check : it appears that the proxy URL that you gave is invalid
November 25, 2010, 06:08:07 pm
I am getting this error on the CiviSMTP account settings page when I test the settings:

"Civimail User Check : it appears that the proxy URL that you gave is invalid
SMTP Authorization Check : SMTP Authorization Succeeded! This proves that the SMTP server is up and that the SMTP Authorization is working with the SMTP username and SMTP password you have entered.
Email Domain Check : The MX records for newsletter.voiceseducation.org are correctly configured
SMTP Account settings updated for Voices Education"

I checked to make sure the soap.php file is actually in the correct location, and it is there:
http://voiceseducation.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/extern/soap.php

Any idea what is going on?

Andrew,
Make sure that the password for the soapproxy user is exactly the same as the soapproxy password you entered when you set up the SMTP account.

Hope this helps,
Cynthia

Yes, I have checked and double-checked that the password for the soapproxy user is exactly the same as the soapproxy password I entered when I set up the SMTP account. When I test my settings at civismtp.org, here is the response that I get:

CiviSMTP Account Settings
Civimail User Check : successfully authenticated.
SMTP Account settings updated for Voices Education

I have exactly this same problem -- same error message telling that the civismtp is not responding when I try to send out a test email -- on both of my accounts at civismtp.org: "Voices Education" and "Andrew Himes". In both cases I have made absolutely certain that both the CiviMail Soap User and password are accurate. In both cases I receive the same positive confirmation from civismtp that my CiviMail Soap User is set up correctly both on my web site and on civismtp.

This is a critical issue. If I cannot get it resolved I will have to discontinue using civismtp, because there is no point paying for servers that do not respond. Is there someone I can talk to on the phone about this?

Andrew,
I hear your frustration but try to be patient :)

First of all, the post you made today is very different from the first post made on 11/25/2010. In that post, you indicated that when you logged into the UAS account, you received an error message when testing the settings for that account. Specifically, you received the message:  "Civimail User Check : it appears that the proxy URL that you gave is invalid".

Based on your post today, it appears that the above issue has been resolved: the account settings now test fine.

So that would lead me to think there is some sort of configuration issue on your site.

here are some things to check:
--Go to Administer CiviCRM/Configure/lobal Settings/Outbound email (SMTP)/Sendmail
--make sure "SMTP" is selected
--make sure the SMTP server is civismtp.uas.coop
--make sure the SMTP post is 20095
--Authentication should be "yes"
--make sure the smtp username/password are exactly the same as the ones you used when you set up the UAS account

if the above doesn't solve the issue then maybe you need to use a different port. it could be that port#20095 is getting blocked in your environment.

hope this helps,
cynthia

My web hosting company is Crystaltech.com. Crystaltech tells me now that they only allow SMTP requests to go out over the default SMTP port 25. They do not allow the use of any other port, such as 20095. This is the reason my civicrm application is getting no response from the civismtp server --  because the request is never getting outside of Crystaltech. This is a problem because civismtp is configured to NOT respond to requests that use port 25. The solution would be to have civismtp server whitelist the IP addresses of the crystaltech server in order to allow the use of port 25 for my IP addresses only. Do you agree?

Here are my IPs for "Voices Education" account on civismtp:
crystaltech mail server: 216.119.112.146
voiceseducation.org web server: 216.197.119.7

Here are my IPs for "Andrew Himes" account on civismtp:
crystaltech mail server: 216.119.112.146
andrewhimes.net web server: 216.197.119.76
