Mail doesn't send and Events don't update

I have two, possibly related problems. I can send test Emails just fine, but the final mailing just sits in the Scheduled Mailings box. I can sometimes kick them out with the yoursitexxxxxx=update trick, but they don't actually get sent. Also, I can put an Event in the New Events procedure, but it doesn't show up in the Events block on my Events content page. Is this one problem or two? Both worked fine until I updated Civimail and Drupal (and incidentally, I don't find any easy way to look up the versions I'm running the way you can with Windows apps). I should add that I am working through a tiny ISP; the sysop has been very helpful, but doesn't know Drupal or CiviCRM and I have to tell him very explicitly what I need (e.g., is the dummy account that I have seen mentioned an account on Drupal/Civicrm or the ISP's mail server?).
Any help much appreciated -- I'm getting tired of sending mass mailings 20 at a time (to avoid Verizon's spam filter) through Outlook.

Are you running the CiviMail cron job?  Perhaps that got lost in your upgrade...

regarding you mailing problem :

you might want to take a look for setup mailing cron : http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC32/CiviMail+Installation#CiviMailInstallation-SettingUptheCronJob

You can also trigger CiviMail to send scheduled mailings by navigating to this URL with your browser:
Drupal: http://<site>/index.php?q=civicrm/mailing/queue&reset=1

Thanks all. I've been multi-tasking to the point of collapse, but I'll follow up on these suggestions as soon as possible.

If your mailers don't go out,  sure the "civimail cron user" has access to 'view all contacts'
