Would we be able to use CiviCRM and its componets for this?

I think that this might be possible with CiviCRM but want to see for sure.

We are a volunteer search and rescue/disaster response organization.  What we need is an online membership database, that would have the volunteers information, that they would be able to modify if needed, etc. name, phone, email, etc.  But also need to have custom fields, that only command (admin) staff would be able to modify, such as training dates, certifications, etc.

This would allow the individual members to keep their information with us current, have the ability to see what training they have completed and when, but require them to request their team leader to modify dates, etc. when they are needed.

We are using Joomla as our site program, and would love to be able to use CiviCRM if it will be able to handle this.

Also, one other thing, can this be used to restrict what members would be able to view once they login to the joomla site, say regular members have access to all pages, expect those that are for team leaders.  Or would we have to find something else for that?

Thanks in advance.

I can't answer for joomla - but I can confirm everything you want to do is possible with drupal. Hope that doesn't seem unhelpful - i know joomla does user reg'n differently - and drupal has a module for synching between either civicrm membership or groups so that the Drupal role is given based on their civicrm status. Hoping someone can give you good news for joomla

Hello Falcon879,

I'm not necessarily an Authority on Joomla!, However, I see absolutely no reason way Joomla! Can't handle this. Joomla's ACL groups are after all pretty similar to Drupal's roles. There are also extensions that accomplish the User/Contact syncs for Joomla! in a manner similar to Drupal's.

Cheers,
Jason

Hello Falcon879,

Your post Dates all the way back to November 2010. I was just wondering if your group decided to go with CiviCRM. I'm sure that CiviCRM would be the perfect program for your needs.

I would really be interested in knowing what you decided.

Cheers,
Jason
