Is there a way to compress or optimize civicrm_contacts?

my current table has about 149k records.  most of these records are simply email addresses.  the table currrently is about 88MB.  Is there a MySQL function to compress this or optimize it?

To somewhat answer my own question, I actually ran the optimize table command on some of my larger tables and it has made a pretty sizeable difference in table size and performance.
