Error after credit card process

I am receiving an error message - http 500 internal server error.  When somebody gets to the last screen that processes their credit card, the error message comes up.  Basically saying that the page can't be displayed.  This is leading people to go back and hit the "continue" button again and having the credit card charged twice.
We are using Elavon as a credit card processor.  Everything has been working good, and this just started happening a couple days ago.  Any thoughts?  How can I fix this?
