Remove 'joomla' directory & files from Drupal installations
December 04, 2010, 12:58:56 pm
My understanding is that the \joomla directory structure is not needed in a Drupal installation and can be removed.  Is this correct?

If so, it would be best if this directory structure was removed from each CiviCRM Drupal distribution before packaging.  As I see it, the following benefits would accrue:
  • Smaller distribution
  • Fewer files to check for changes on sync/VCS operations
  • Fewer files to transfer from staging to production
  • Drupal performance improvement: http://www.morningtime.com/Drupal-6x-Performance-Guide/II-Advanced-Drupal-Performance-P/Move-third-party-libraries-outsi/535
  • Fewer people asking silly questions about the need for these files  ;)

Shall I open a Jira ticket with this request?

please file an issue. Would be even better if you can investigate and attach a patch. The relevant files are in svn under distmaker/dists

we'll most likely eliminate the directories from the respective installs BUT not remove the specific CMS specific files in various sub-directories (there are 3-5 of these).

Realistically speaking: The distribution size / performance improvements / number of files etc are likely to be negligible with or without those directories.
