Transactions Disappear from Report if both are active and of same type
December 08, 2010, 12:29:18 pm
Hello:

I have an interesting effect taking place when running a Membership Detail report: member records with renewing memberships that are active at the same time (overlapping from one year to the next) are missing the earlier of the two active memberships on the report output.

If I change the membership type of either record so that the two active membership records are not of the same type, they both show up on the report output.

Anyone heard of such a thing?

-Joe

Isn't that by design? You're not really supposed to have 2 membership records for the same type of membership for the same contacts that 'connect' - the earlier membership is supposed to be extended when they renew

Ah . . . that is one school of thought, and the school in which I suspect my version of CiviCRM got it's learnin. <wink!>

Our memberships are annual -only-, no matter how long someone has been a member in toto, so there will [hopefully] always be some overlap at the beginning/end of the calendar year.

The other question/comment would be: what business would CiviReport have ignoring a membership entry, for any reason whatsoever?  If there was an error in the form (pun) of duplicate memberships at any given time, wouldn't one want to run a report to find out?  The effect here is that the system is actively hiding the 'problem', if it is indeed set up to do so, and this is not an unintended outcome.

So basically, I need CiviReport to simply do that: report.

Any ideers?

You can use drupal devel module to see what query is running & then see why it is being excluded
