Automatic update?
December 09, 2010, 06:28:16 am
HI there.
I notice that the 3.3.1 release refers to "automatic upgrades" I can't see anything in the documentation for this or commands in any of the menus - how does it work?

Thanks!

There are no automatic upgrades. Please follow the instructions mentioned on wiki.

Check: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+3.3

Thanks for the clarification - but what, then, does "We will continue to include automated upgrades for subsequent releases of 3.3 - so you should be able to upgrade your site easily over the course of the release cycle." which is on the CiviCRM 3.3.1 Release Announcement page - mean?

Thanks

This mean you will have to follow instructions mentioned on wiki and then run upgrade process. It will automatically perform upgrade for you.

So downloading latest civicrm is still manual process.

Actually it does upgrade automatically on Joomla. Just install over the old installation. worked like magic - slight very slight errors.

Thanks for that - I think of an automatic update as the one used by Wordpress, for example, where it downloads the update and installs it upon request. Not a problem, just a difference in interpretation.

I know that Civi is heading down the automatic route - in the 'wordpress' sense of the word - for Extensions (http://civicrm.org/blogs/michal/civicrm-extensions-framework-taking-33).

Might be that one day, the same will happen for upgrades but we're not quite there yet - fingers crossed :)
