Best way to track contributions for marketing purposes?
December 10, 2010, 12:08:24 pm
Right now, when I sent out an email and want to track the performance of the email solicitation (or a split test within the email, keyword or banner campaign), I'm using a module called CiviTracker (I don't if I named it this or not) that uses two custom data fields (it could be one) and hides the code in a profile on each contribution page.  The profile has to be activated manually of course.

The module allows me to add into a URL string for instance: &custom_1=appealcode&custom_2=mailcode.

I'm running into some conflicts with the module with one group and want to know if there's a better way to track the performance of a email, keyword, or banner campaign within Civi without using the module.

Plus I want to free up that used profile.

I appreciate any thoughts on how to improve the marketing capabilities of Civi.

Nothing new specifically for this in 3.3.x

However we've introduced a new component called "CiviCampaign" and added a few features to it (Surveys and Petitions). In the long term, we'd like to integrate CiviCampaign with the other components (Contribute, Event, Mailing, Engage) so folks can do campaign (and sub-campaign) tracking and analysis.

So campaign management should be able to answer questions like:

How much money did my Fall 2010 campaign raised?
How much money was raised due to this set of mailings?
What was the event registration rate with this campaign?

If you/your org would like to help make this happen, please let us know. Currently we are not planning any significant work for Campaign in 3.4, primarily due to a short release cycle and no lead sponsor
