Civi profile / Drupal account not linked until edited in Drupal
December 05, 2007, 08:17:03 am
I am noticing that when people sign up (using a CiviContribute contribution page with an embedded profile) for a free membership, the checkbox for the option to create a Drupal membership is showing (though it would be nice to have it active by default). When they fill it out, it does add their information to Civi and it does create a Drupal account for them -- but they are not immediately linked. If I load it in Civi it doesn't have the "View user account" link, and if I view it in Drupal it doesn't have the additional fields showing or the links to the contact record/dashboard. So it seems the link has not yet been made. If I edit the user in Civi and view again without saving, nothing happens. If I edit and view in Drupal, the link is made.

Is there any way to have this happen immediately?

Also, what is the best way to disable the Drupal default registration page and force the user to use the CiviContribute page? I figured out how to add profiles to the user registration, but it doesn't show the membership information, just the additional fields.

Peace,
lpkb

hey lpkb:

can you please file an issue for this. this is a valid bug and we need to fix it in 2.0 (since we have more info since we help create the account)

u can disable the user reg form via drupal permissions. I suppose u can expose the civicontribute page as links in various areas of the site and make that your "default" reg form

Okay, I will try to figure out how to add an issue. :) I see the "Issue tracker" link at the top, so I'm pretty sure I can figure it out.

One other thing on this topic -- it seems if I disable user registrations, the ability to register drops off the civicontribute forms as well, so I have to leave it active. I can live with that, but I will still try to find a way to override that default registration link.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that I don't think passwords are being sent to new users when they register for a Drupal account. The Drupal settings indicate a password/username should be sent by email, but it doesn't seem to be sending. We get the $0 contribution "receipt" but no password. Personally I think it would be great if the username and password were both autogenerated (username based on first/last name) and then emailed to them upon registration, but if they could input both that would work, too.

Did this fix make it into 2.0?

If you're asking about 2471 - the issue shows Resolved - with Fix Version: 2.0 - so yes :-)
