So I have tried with the profile editor but you cannot show membership information there.

The dashboard doesn't show that information either.

Is there a way (without hack) to display a list of memberships the frontend logged in user has? Displaying type of membership, expiration data and member since is all I need.

Two things to check.

First go to Administer > Configure > Global Settings > Site Preferences

Down near the bottom there is a Contact Dashboard sectin with tick boxes for the items to be displayed on the dashboard. Ensure that the membership box is ticked.

Secondly, Joomla users need to by synchronised with Civicrm contacts so that the logged in Joomla user can see their own Civi details on the dashboard page. You can do this under Administer > Manage > Synchronise Users to Contacts. This last bit needs to be done on a regular basis.

This works well under Joomla and even allows members to renew through the dashboard. Damn useful.
