Total Contribution and the Preview widget

How do I get the Preview widget to display the total contributions that includes recurring payments?

If a donor contributes $50 for 20 months, the thermometer only shows $50.

Also, when I export a contribution that includes the donation above, it exports only the $50.

is this via civicrm recurring payments or manually entering them individually? if the latter the feature is not yet implemented.

note that recurring support for offline payments is very limited in civicrm.
